Jesuits in Youth Ministry

JOURNEYING WITH YOUTH
Accompanying young people in the creation of a hope-filled future

THE UNIVERSAL APOSTOLIC PREFERENCE of the Jesuits is focused on the youth, emphasizing their significance in both the present and the future. The Jesuits are dedicated to understanding the unique challenges and aspirations of young people in today’s rapidly changing world. They accompany them on their journeys, providing spiritual guidance, mentorship, and support as they navigate life’s choices and obstacles.

The preference emphasizes the importance of nurturing hope in the hearts of young individuals, particularly in a world with uncertainties and challenges. The Jesuits aim to inspire and empower the youth to envision a brighter future and actively contribute to the betterment of society.

This apostolic preference aligns with the Jesuit tradition of education and social engagement. The Jesuits create opportunities for young people to grow intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally, believing that investing in their development will shape future leaders and change-makers.

The Jesuit province has a Youth Centre committed to engaging and empowering youth, acknowledging the vital role of sports and language education in their holistic development. In the realm of basketball, the center provides a platform for young enthusiasts to actively participate. It organizes regular training sessions, coaching clinics, and friendly competitions, fostering teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. Through basketball, the center promotes values such as sportsmanship, perseverance, and healthy competition, while also facilitating opportunities for building friendships and social connections.

Recognizing the significance of language skills in today’s globalized world, the Jesuit Youth Centre offers residential English language courses for post O/L and post A/L students, alongside leadership programs. These initiatives aim to enhance language proficiency, communication skills, and overall personality development. By integrating sports and language education, the center fosters not only physical abilities and linguistic proficiency but also personal growth, confidence, and cross-cultural understanding.
